Karocell Tissue Engineering AB started business in 2001 as a spin-off company of the Karolinska Institute. Co-founders Professor Gunnar Kratz and Dr. Anders Boman established Karocell to produce tissue and develop methods to repair and regenerate autologous tissue. Karocell also offers normal human cells for scientific and commercial purposes in academic institutions and companies. The company was ISO 9001:2000 certified in 2004.

Karoskin™ is human skin from donors useful as temporary covering of severely burned patients while waiting for an autologous skin graft. Karoskin™ is functioning as the patient’s own skin, reducing pain and decreasing the risk of infections. Karoderm™ is human donated cell-free dermis to serve as a biological scaffold for autologous keratinocytes. Karocell is also delivering frozen or proliferated cells to Sweden and Denmark through AB Göteborgs Termometerfabrik-GTF. Their product portfolio includes: keratinocytes, melanocytes, fibroblasts, hyalin and elastic chondrocytes, endothelial cells (veins), microvascular endothelial cells, adipocytes, striated muscle cells, breast epithelial cells, CD 34 and CD 133 (umbilical cord blood stem cells).
