Founded in 1964, Gambro is a global company with headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden. It is dealing with renal care and is a leading provider of kidney dialysis services. The company has three business fields, namely Gambro Renal Products, Gambro Healthcare, and Gambro BCT. In autumn 2004, Gambro acquired the business of Teraklin AG, Germany, and expanded its intensive care business into the extracorporeal treatments for liver support. In February 2005, Gambro announced its entering the field of regenerative medicine. The first plant outside Sweden was built in Hechingen, Germany, in the 1970’s. At the end of 2004, Gambro established a strategic alliance with DaVita and divested its dialiysis clinics business in the US to DaVita.

Gambro Renal Products develops and supplies hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and acute dialysis products, therapies and services. Gambro BCT provides technology, products and systems to blood centers and hospital blood banks. By entering the field of regenerative biology, the company has extended its research into renal diseases. The company owns over 140 patents.
