The Geistlich Group is a family-owned enterprise with activities including pharmaceuticals and biomaterials for medical applications, edible collagen foil for the meat processing industry, fats for cattle feed as well as adhesives and polymer powders for technical applications. The company was founded in 1851 as a glue factory. In 1986, Geistlich produced Bio-Oss®, the first natural bone substitution material.

Bio-Oss® is a natural bone mineral for bone regeneration with similarity to the structure of human bone. The stable, slowly resorbing matrix structure stabilises the blood coagulum, provides a good guide-rail function for the bone and has a long-term stability of the regenerated area. Other products include Bio-Gide®, Resor-Pin®, and Bio-Gide® Perio.
