The Neuroprosthetics Group of the IBMT is spescialised in the development of substitutes for the nervous system used for implantation after traumatisation and neural disorders. The micro-system technology allows the group to produce ultralight and flexible microimplants made of biocompatible materials to interface nerves. The development of flexible electrodes e.g. for a retina implant and for innovative electrodes for large peripheral nerves (EU-ESPRIT Projekt GRIP) was awarded with national (Saarland State Science Award) and international (Lojze Vodovnik Student Award, IFESS 2000) prizes.
