Skeletal Tissue Engineering Group Amsterdam

Fundamental and clinical research of skeletal tissues

The foundation emerged in 1998 and derives from the Department of Oral Cell Biology of the Academic Department of Orthopaedics of the Vrije Universiteit, the Department of Oral Cell Biology of the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA) and the Department of Clinical Physics and Informatics of the University Hospital Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.
The multidisciplinary research group is engaged in fundamental and clinical aspects of the regeneration of skeletal tissues as well as orthopaedic and dental implants.

STEGA is interested in all research related to skeletal tissues and orthopaedic and dental implantology. Current studies include spinal fusion, the revision of hip and knee protheses, cartilage repair and anti-microbial peptides. The scientists capitalise on the different aspects of biomaterials (e.g. polymers, minerals) and growth factors (e.g. osteogenic proteins).
