Vita 34 AG
Banking cord blood, stem cell research
Vita 34 AG was founded in 1997 by Eberhard F. Lampeter and Dr. med. Uwe Marx as first company in Europe producing umbilial cord preparations. The name is a composite of VITA (=life) and 34 referring to the surface molecule CD34, a transmembrane glycoprotein constitutively expressed on endothelial cells and on haematopoietic stem cells. In July 2004, Philadelphia based CorCell, Inc. and Germany- based VITA 34 merged to form VITA 34 INTERNATIONAL AG, a new holding company headquartered in Leipzig, Germany. CorCell and VITA 34 will continue to operate under their established brand names in their respective markets. Both companies are both wholly owned subsidiaries of VITA 34 INTERNATIONAL AG.
