Aeolus Pharmaceuticals is developing a series of catalytic antioxidant molecules which protect against the damaging effects of reactive oxygen derived molecules. Aeolus’ compounds have demonstrated efficacy in preclinical models of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), cancer, stroke and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Examples include: AEOL 10113 inhibits the regrowth of tumors following radiation therapy in a mouse model of cancer. AEOL 10150 has been tested in an Amylotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) model in an initial and then a confirmatory experiment. Catalytic antioxidants AEOL 10113 and AEOL 10150 also significantly reduce damaged brain tissue.
