Stem cell biology and antigen processing

Dr. Bühring is staff scientist in the Division of Haematology, Immunology, Rheumatology, and Oncology. Main research interests are the identification and characterisation of rare haematopoietic and non-haematopoietic cell populations, identification of novel cell surface antigens recognised by monoclonal antibodies. Identification of new extracellular ligands and clustering of novel antibodies in HLDA (Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens) workshops. Funded by the “BioProfile Regenerative Biology” programme and in cooperation with m-phasys Gmbh, Tübingen, the Institute researches the therapeutic use of adult mesenchymal stem cells for bone/cartilage replacement and generates antibodies against G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) in order to identify and characerise stem cells.
