California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM)
Distribution of $3 billion in funding for stem cell research at Californian universities and research institutions.
The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) is a new state agency, founded with the passage of California’s Proposition 71. It was established in 2005 and is authorised to distribute $3 billion of public funds, generated by the sale of state bonds, to fund stem cell research and build research facilities over the next ten years. The institute is governed by the Independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee (ICOC), which combines twenty-nine members, appointed by elected officials and chancellors of the University of California.
