TheraCyte™ is a cell delivery platform and has been shown to correct diabetes in rodents and deliver molecules using genetically engineered cells. The system provides for long-term delivery without the need for frequent injections or external pumping devices. It is implanted subcutaneously. Two further products, regulated insulin (encapsulated human cell line that has been genetically engineered to deliver insulin in response to blood glucose levels) and interferon (INF) alpha product (an encapsulated human cell line that has been genetically engineered to deliver interferon alpha) are currently under development.
