Tissue Engineering Competence Centre (KTE)

The Tissue Engineering (KTE) competence centre was founded in 2003 by the Clinics for Heart Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Dermatology and Orthopaedics and the Institute of Molecular Biology at the University of Lübeck. It was established with the intention to support economically relevant research projects on their way to marketable commodities or to support the establishment of start-up companies. KTE provides modern facilities (GMP) and tissue engineering related services.

KTE is currently working on therapeutic angiogenesis in tissues, which are poorly supplied with blood by means of genetically reprogrammed autologous cells. A further project is to tissue engineer heart valves from autologous cells. KTE is also testing marine collagen for therapeutic and clinical applications (cartilage tissue engineering).
