UK Centre for Tissue Engineering (UKTE)


Research collaboration in the fields of dermal, connective and vascular tissue engineering.


The UKCTE is a joint venture of the Universities of Manchester and Liverpool, involing the School of Biological Sciences and the School of Medicine in Manchester and the Department of Clinical Engineering in Liverpool. The research programme started in March 2001 and is sponsored with £10M by the Research Councils (BBSRC, MRC, EPSRC) for 6 years by an Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration (IRCol) Award.

The research programme of UKCTE is arranged in three major topics; skin and wound healing are led by Prof. Mark Ferguson; cartilage and intervertebral disc repair headed by Prof. Tim Hardingham; vascular development is led by Prof. Cay Kielty.
