Principle research focus is the development of degradable materials for hard and soft tissue surgery, including degradable glasses in bulk and fibre form. Recent work is deals with the synthesis of new degradable polymers.
This division has collaborative links with clinical departments within the EDI, including Prosthodontics, Conservative Dentistry, Periodontology, Endodontics and Orthodontics, as well as external links with Queen Mary College (London), the Institute of Orthopaedics (UCL) and Imperial College (London) as well as a number of international research institutions.
The interdisciplinary research area involves biomedical informatics, hard and soft tissue biology, the study of metals, ceramics and glasses, and the composition of biocompatible polymers and composites.
