The Forschungszentrum für Medizintechnik und Biotechnologie e.V. (Research Centre of Medical Technology and Biotechnology) was founded in 1994 as friendly society. It started its business in 1995 by offering diverse services for the life science industry.

The tissue engineering group of the fzmb is using a horse model to simulate soft and hard tissue defects. Besides cell culturing of cartilage and bone cells, the scientists of the fzmb are investigating the development of artificial substitutes.
