SanguiBioTech GmbH
Development of artificial oxygen carrier and glucose sensors for internal and external application, manufacturing of medical and cosmetic products.
SanguiBioTech was founded in 1995 by Prof. Barnikol at the University of Mainz, one year later GlukoMediTech AG (Glucose Sensors) was founded. Sangui Group financed their development by venture capital. In order to obtain additional funding, in 1997 the company underwent a restructuring in the event of which Sangui BioTech International, Inc., a Colorado-based company, emerged. Sangui BioTech International since then serves as the parent company of the operating SanguiBioTech GmbH, Germany.
Recently, the company has refocused part of its activities on products which promised to be marketable in the short term, including anti-aging cosmetic skin care products, and medical products based on the companie’s expertise in the field of artificial oxygen carriers.

Development of artificial oxygen carriers for the therapy of hypoxemic and oxygen deficiency diseases. In the past years, the company has been able to link 15 to 20 haemoglobin molecules to create “hyperpolymers”. These hyperpolymers have oxygen-binding properties similar to human haemoglobins and a very low colloidal osmotic pressure. First pilot production of oxygen carrier molecules was carried out in 2001.
The following section contains a selection of the company’s most relevant patents. For comprehensive patent information please refer to the espacenet databases.
