Vasogen concentrates on the development of technologies for the treatment of inflammatory diseases, their basic research as well as clinical development programmes.

Chronic inflammation is involved in the progression and development of several diseases such as heart failure, atherosclerosis and neurodegenerative diseases.

Vasogen’s lead product Celacade™ is being developed to reduce the risk of death and hospitalisation in patients suffering from chronic heart failure and peripheral arterial disease by delivering oxidative stress, that causes cell apoptosis, to a sample of a patient’s own cells during a brief outpatient procedure. The approach is to down-regulate the production of inflammentory cytokines and the consequential reduction of cell apoptosis.

The VP series of drugs targets the interaction with antigen presenting cells (APCs) of the immune system to regulate tissue levels of cytokines and control inflammation. VP025 is being developed for the treatment of neuro-inflammatory disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Celacade™ is currently in phase III clinical trials for the indication areas of chronic heart failure and peripheral arterial disease.

The ACCLAIM (advanced chronic heart failure clinical assessment of immune modulation therapy) trial researches the use of Celacade™ technology to reduce mortality and morbidity in patients suffering from advanced chronic heart failure.

The SIMPADICO (study of immune modulation therapy in peripheral arterial disease and intermittent claudication outcomes) trial investigates the use of Celacade™ technologies to improve walking distance in patients with intermittent claudication.

VP025 completed phase I clinical development and has started phase II clinical development in patients suffering from neuro-inflammatory disorders.
