Chrysalin® is a 23-amino acid synthetic peptide that constitutes the basis molecule for several therapeutic products targeted at soft tissue and bone repair. The Chrysalin® molecule is a receptor-binding domain of the human thrombin molecule that regulates blood clotting and forwards the natural cascade of healing events in soft tissue and bone repair.
Chrysalin® mimics specific attributes of the thrombin molecule and so stimulates indirectly the body’s natural healing processes.
Potential medical applications for Chrysalin® are bone fracture repair, dermal wound healing, cartilage defect repair, spine fusion, cardiovascular repair, dental bone repair and ligament and tendon repair.
OrthoLogic undertakes clinical trials for 3 Chrysalin® products for fracture repair, dermal wound healing and spine fusion.
Chrysalin® is in Phase I/II human clinical trial for the application of diabetic foot ulcer. The application for cartilage defect repair, cardiovascular repair, dental bone repair, ligament and tendon repair are tested in preclinical studies.
In May 2005, a phase III human clinical trial was completed for the indication of Chrysalin® for the treatment of unstable and/or displaced distal radius (wrist) factures. OrthoLogic expects to release initial efficacy results in 2006.
