The technology for the treatment of damaged articular cartilage is directed by the autologous implantation of in vitro cultivated chondrocytes. Educell’s research focuses on four main programmes - including chondrocytes used in the treatment of arthrosis, for the treatment of vesicoureteral reflux, chondrocyte transplantation for the prevention of the narrowing of disc space in the spine and bone replacement for use in periodontology, orthopaedics and traumatology.

Educell’s first product, ChondroArt®, involves the isolation and cultivation of the patient’s healthy cartilage. Subsequenlty, a graft consisting of a suspension of chondrocytes/chondrocytes on collagen based scaffold is transplanted into the lesion and leads to complete regeneration of the joint. The product is currently further developed to allow less invasive treatments.
