The company develops and commercialises cell therapies to treat several major disease areas such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, pancreatic and cardiac conditions. Its lead product, Tovaxin™, is a therapeutic vaccine for multiple sclerosis (MS) consisting of attenuated autoreactive T-cells. It induces the body’s immune system to attack the myelin reactive T-cells that are responsible for destroying the myelin sheath coating of the axons in the central nervous system. The company is also developing a novel diagnostic assay for MS.
Tovaxin™ is currently being evaluated in two Phase I/II clinical trials. Former trials showed that Tovaxin™ purges reactive T cells, thus stabilisating multiple sklerosis.
