Nutrition 21’s science is mainly focused on chromium, a trace mineral essential in its role as a co-factor of insulin. Between 1959 and 1977, initial observations in people with type 2 diabetes, or diabetes mellitus, led researchers to hypothesise that chromium picolinate, which is Nutrition 21’s form of chromium, might benefit individuals who have insulin resistant diabetes. Clinical studies involving over 1500 subjects were carried out and the results demonstrated that supplemental use of the company’s chromax chromium picolinate, at 200 to 1000 mcg has an ability to improve glycemic control in people with or at risk for diabetes.
